iPhone
I find my iPhone is taking me back to my photography roots. My first camera was a Kodak Box Camera. Forcing me to concentrate on immediate composition rather than settings makes me aware of I the story to be told.
My real job is as a Science Fiction author. This shot just screams for me to do a story about a future where people are thrown back on horses to patrol sections of our coasts.
"Riders of the Far Coast" Hmmm. Might get at that one.

The Straight Shot
And then there is the straight shot.
This is the type of shot you can't buy. No model, no wardrobe, no props, no positioning, no changes, no shifts, and damn near no camera; had to use my iPhone, but this is a good lesson that the moment is more important than the equipment. The results are only what comes out of the camera, right?
Wrong. I've been considering the line between the photo-finishing step and photo-manipulation. Hard to tell where I have messed with this, but I have. Still, 90% one of those 'perfect' moments
Kristine Hall was quietly enjoying a hot August afternoon on Morro Strand (Atascadero Beach) when I saw her and begged her not to move; she was the perfectly amusing muse.
The shot was on the KSBY website titled: Summer's End.

Kid Pics
Learning Experience!
I bet I've taken a million kid pics, some were even acceptable, but I've never understood how to get a good one. My son and his wife mentioned one of their kids was doing what they call a 'Masonism,' which meant he was being his typical self or acting in a manner that is unique to his personality.
It was like a 'Ah-Ha, moment of clarity' experience for me. I'm going to try to figure out what personality quirks are theirs and try to snap at that moment from now on.
Oliver, on top, is a curious and trusting,.
Mason, on bottom, likes to think about things before he commits to smiling.
